Spurs 90 Lakers 84

Article: Smush and the Lakers lose round one of the Battle of the Parkers to Tony and the Spurs.

Smush Stats: In only 27 minutes (because of foul trouble) Smush scored 10 points on 4-7 shooting with 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 2 turnovers.

The Battle of the Parkers (Round One):

Points - Smush 10 / Tony 10 --- PUSH
Rebounds - Smush 4 / Tony 6 --- Advantage Tony
Assists - Smush 1 / Tony 5 --- Advantage Tony
Steals - Smush 3 / Tony 1 --- Advantage Smush
Turnovers - Smush 2 / Tony 4 --- Advantage Smush
Blocked Shots - Smush 1 / Tony 0 --- Advantage Smush
Personal Fouls - Smush 4 / Tony 1 --- Advantage Tony

Result - Smush 3 / Tony 3 (with one tie)

If you don't count the fact that the Spurs won (I'm not) then it's a tie for Round One. However, I can't stand ties so we have to go to the Wildcard Tiebreaker. It was tough but I'd have to go . . .

Advantage Tony:

Next Game: Thursday in Utah vs. the Jazz at 10:30 ET on TNT.

Clippers 97 Lakers 91

Smush Quote (from before the game): "There are rumors going around saying we're no longer the best team in L.A.," Lakers guard Smush Parker said. "We're out to prove to L.A. fans that they're wrong." (LA Daily News)

Don't worry, Smush, there are still 3 more games vs. the Clippers this year.

Article: Kobe Bryant took 35 shots.

Smush Stats: In 28 minutes Smush scored 10 points on 4-9 shooting and had 4 rebounds and 4 assists with no steals and no turnovers.

Something I Missed (from LA Daily News 11/16/05): After watching guard Smush Parker take only five shots Monday at Memphis, Jackson declared that his team must find a way to get Parker more involved.

"The shots I was getting the first two or three games, I haven't been getting in the games of late," Parker said. "We're just looking for different options in our offense and we're not taking what the defense is giving to us."

Parker said the Lakers need to go back to finding the first open man out of the triangle offense. That often was Parker in the season's first week, left alone beyond the 3-point arc when his defender went to help on Kobe Bryant.

The game against the Knicks will be a showcase for Parker, who grew up in New York City and is friends with Knicks guard Stephon Marbury.

Next Game: Sunday at home vs. the Chicago Bulls.

An article and a blurb

This first article is one I missed from November 11th on SI.com. The article is two pages long and it's high quality with some great quotes from Smush, Kobe, and Phil Jackson, and one nice picture which I'm gonna put on this page even though you'll see it if you click on the link.

Smush is a smash

The second article is from this week's issue of Sports Illustrated (2005 College Basketball Preview) and is more of a blurb in the NBA specific section in the back of the magazine. It's the latest edition of a section called, Scout's Take, which is updated weekly. This blurb is also on SI.com, and it comes after the article on Chris Webber at the bottom of the page (without the picture that appears in the magazine).

Scout's Take: Smush Parker

Lakers 97 Knicks 92

Article: Kobe Bryant took 36 shots.

Smush Stats: In 35 minutes Smush scored 10 points on 3-10 shooting and had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and 5 turnovers.

Next Game: Friday at home vs. the LA Clippers.

Welcome to Smush Watch

Hello to those of you who know of this site's existence. In case you couldn't tell, this is the BRAND NEW, Smush Parker specific, spinoff site of Failure's Art. Just so you know, I've decided to make an all Smush site because now that he's a regular starting PG in the NBA I'll have a lot of material (articles, box scores, pictures, stats, interviews) that are worthy of this site's full attention, to give to you, The Public. Hopefully, this will be the first of many Smush Parker websites on the internets for years to come. It sure is nice here on the ground floor.

Unlike Failure's Art, I will update this site very frequently because I don't have to think of stuff to write about or try to be funny (mine is a tough life). Also, I will keep you updated on when Smush and the Lakers are on TV (ESPN, TNT, ABC) so you can watch them if you have the time. This site will be easy for me to keep current so check in daily for new information and whatnot.

So, to start things off, professional traitor Larry Brown and his woefully disappointing New York Knicks will be at the Staples Center in LA tonight (Wednesday 11/16) to face Smush and the Lakers. This game will be on ESPN at 10:00 ET so check in on it if you're awake.

ONE MORE THING: In case you were wondering, YES, I did go to the Lakers/Sixers game last Friday night, and YES, I did see Smush and we talked. I'll summarize the night and the game sometime before the weekend because it will actually require thinking and full sentences (milestones!). Unfortunately for those anticipating that post, I'm actually going to be busy for the next couple of days so you'll have to wait on that for a minute or two, but in the end it should be worth the wait. Probably.
